The future described by Ray Kurzweil would bring enormous changes to “humanity,” and he even pointed to the year 2045. Yet institutional discussion about how to support such a future or prepare for it remains strikingly underdeveloped. It has not even been adequately developed at Singularity University.

If institutions remain this unprepared, then once such technologies are developed, they should be applied only to the relatively small number of people who actually want that kind of life.

The most likely form would be a small-scale project involving a handful of wealthy participants who sign agreements containing conditions such as a commitment not to cause harm to the outside society, while living connected to various machines. The project would most likely begin somewhere in Silicon Valley, surrounded by all kinds of technological equipment. But because no one can know what uncontrollable events might occur once the project begins, Death Valley could just as easily become the starting point.

Either way, it would be Valley Life.

Valley Life is a way of life that actively embraces continued technological development — including AI, BCI, life extension, and physical and cognitive enhancement — in order to keep expanding human capabilities.

If Entropy Exodus aims for “stopping at enough technology and becoming independent,” Valley Life is closer to “continuing to accept advancement and enhancement while living within that ongoing process.”
